Submissions

Cats with Thumbs aims to be a Literary Fiction and Poetry Publication which is to be distributed amongst our networks freely as downloads and emailed personal recommendations.

There is no submission fee or reading fee or any kind of fee. Sadly, this also means that we cannot pay our creative people (yet). While we are working towards that, please believe us that your work will always be appreciated, respected and loved.

So, to clarify, there is no payment on acceptance of your work into this ezine. The ezine is not sold nor exchanged for monetary gains.

However, we do have a “Best Of” Anthology which will include the most popular entries from the previous two editions  as well as new material, and this will be made available as a printed copy through Amazon. Contributors for this special printed version will receive a copy of the book as payment for their inclusion.

Submissions, either Fiction, Poetry or Artwork will ONLY be accepted through Submittable

There will be specific call out dates for submissions with clear deadlines. Please check the DEADLINES page for dates.

Fiction

We are accepting both unpublished and published literary  fiction from 1200 to 1500 words. Previously published works must attributed appropriately and permission for re-publication is the responsibility of the author to obtain.

1. Strictly up to two submissions per publication. Each submission must be entered separately. If your submission holds two stories, it will be disqualified from consideration for this publication. You are welcome to submit following the guidelines again for the following publication.

2. Cats with Thumbs acquires first time Australian rights upon publication, as well as the right to archive your work online. All other rights revert to the author.

3. Stories must be deemed to be literary fiction. It is hoped to be a stepping stone publication for emerging writers/poets who have ideas of getting work published in places like Overland, The London Magazine, Southerly, The Southern Review, Poetry, The Normal School and other literature magazines.

4. All stories must be submitted by midnight on the cut off date ( Friday the 11th of April 2015.)

5. Length: strictly under 1500 words.

6. No gratuitous violence or content which may be deemed offensive, defamatory or demeaning. If in doubt contact the editor BEFORE submission. Profanity and sexual content are acceptable.

7. All stories must be beta read, line edited and proof read prior to submission.

8. Stories must be formatted in a Times style typeface, 12 point, double spaced, and left justified

9. All entries are to be submitted via Submittable. This will accept .doc and .rtf files. No entries will be accepted from other sources.

Biographical information will be used on the website to assist with promotion as well as included in the final publication.

Please ensure your story meets ALL criteria before submitting.
